Brian needed some help with basic computer skills and math in order to pass his college entrance test.  With help from one of our tutors, he passed the test and was able to enroll in college.

Sean needed to improve his reading, grammar, and math skills in order to get into a GED program.  After working with one of our tutors for several months, he was able to enroll in a GED program.

Maria could speak English very well, but had some trouble with reading and writing in English.  She wanted to improve her ESL reading and writing skills.  She has reached her goal, and is still working with a tutor in order to become even more proficient in English.

Kathy came to LVHC because she could pass everything on the GED test except math.  We paired her with a tutor.  Within a month, she had her GED.

Sandra came to LVHC because she couldn't read.  After eight months of working with Suzi, one of our tutors, Sandra reads at a second grade level, and can do math.  She is learning to keep a checkbook and a budget, and continues to work on her reading skills.

There are many more people like the students mentioned above, who have realized their goals by improving their literacy skills. (Except for Sandra, the names have been changed to protect confidentiality. We have Sandra's permission to use her name.)  By becoming a tutor or donating to LVHC, you can help others.

Giving to the United Way is another way to help. Please "Live United" by supporting the United Way as they kick off their yearly campaign..  Literacy Volunteers is one of the many agencies that depend on the United Way for funding.
